Harmonic Phonic

It's official, I'm buying a harmonica. Just a note of warning, once you place a bid on an eBay item, there's no turning back. I know I have 2 already, but my dad made the mistake of giving them to me to "play" with when I was a wee one, and they've somehow disappeared into old boxes of stuffed animals & such... Anywho, I've been a bit lazy with the posting lately because believe it or not, I have a bunch of stuff to do even though I'm unemployed. Like practice my guitar whilst singing songs in french. And randomly buying harmonicas on eBay. Being musical is hard, but someone in my house has got to do it. And my cat wailing at 3am does NOT count.

Okayokay I'll try to get around to posting some new stuff soon, but until then you get a taste of my new musical instrument.

The Beatles - Love Me Do

City and Colour, Vids! Yay!

So I was pretty happy to hear that at Massey Hall, they don't mind if you bring in cameras, as long as you don't use your flash. I started filming "Waiting", but I had to put the camera down to partake in singing along, so that clip turned to crap. But I did get a few decent videos, so here they are! Oh P.S., show was amaaazing. It seemed like it went by so fast though; I could listen to Dallas for hours.

Julie Doiron - Spill Yer Lungs (Clip)

Through this entire set, I had no idea who this girl was. I'd never heard of her before, but it didn't take much for me to become a fan. She's an awesome musician, and just so down to earth and real. Love her!

Sometimes (I Wish)

*NEW* Untitled Song (Clip)

Yay a new song! I love it already.

So all in all this concert was rad-tastic, for lack of a real better word, and I wish it lasted longer. If you're a fan of Dallas Green, I highly suggest you check out one of his concerts. His musical ability tends to just blow me away, especially when he has the one-man+three-intruments show going on, featuring his guitar, harmonica, and that ridiculous voice of his. (And when I say ridiculous I mean amazing!)

City and Colour!

Eeek! Okay, sorry to disappoint but I won't be putting up any tunage today. I've gotta get all dolled up to see City&Colour tonight @ Massey Hall! Super stoked! I'm not sure about their policy on cameras, but either way I'm snagging a few pics & vids if I can. Shall put 'em tomorrow when/if i get the time. Cheers! *dances away excitedly*

Mystery Men

So a few months back I was listening to good ol' Last.fm radio, when I came across an artist by the name of Gena. I liked the tunes, and lucky for me a few were up for free download. I kind of just forgot about the music, until I logged in one day and under the "Free Downloads Recommended For You" section, there were a whole whack of songs by this "Gena". So I downloaded all the songs, and decided to take a gander at the artist's profile. Not much there, except for 2 pictures, 2 albums, and not even one comment. So I typed the name in Myspace to see if anything came up. Nada. So who is this mystery person/band/possible robot? I can tell you I honestly don't know, but what I do know is that I like the tunage, so I'm givin' ya Gena's debut album, Mister. It sounds like DIY garage-punk, so if you're in the mood take 'er for a spin:

1. Free Market Fight Song
2. Safety Nowhere
3. Bald and Sexy
4. Scenery
5. Feet Don't Follow
6. Goin' AWOL
7. Hand In Hand
8. Something to Starve For
9. Vulture Gourmet
10. In Good Company
11. Elegy
12. 24 Hours in Warrenton

Oh whaddaya know, in the time frame of me posting this, I dug up their dirt. Those sneaky bastards! Looks to me as if they're on a slight hiatus.

I am in such a chill mood right now, listening to copius amounts of tunage. And I love this song so I'm putting it up before I forget about it and it gets lost in the musical archives of my mind.

Random - Spontaneous Devotion

Yeah, he's actually called Random. It's like this music was meant to be listened to by me, right now, in this moment. Enjoy!

Hooow ironic, on the day where I decide to make a post related to sunshine, it's cloudy out. Buuut it's been gorgeous the last couple of days, so I decided to make a suntastic post featuring summer/sun related songs, or at least with songs that have either of the words in their titles. Atlantis EP City

In uploading the Dancing With Paris demo, I remembered another band who I had seen at a show in February; Kingdoms. These guys had a free upload of their Atlantis EP, so download it I did and here it is:

1. Pyramids
2. Catharsis
3. Telegraph Static
4. Atlantis
5. La Serena

Myspace: Kingdoms

Let's Go to Paris

Back in January, I went to a Speak of the Devil show at the Kathedral with a few of the res boys, and for some reason this one band's name stuck in my head. Their name was Dancing With Paris, so I decided to check out their Myspace to gain any recollection of why I remembered them so well. Lo and behold, they put up their demo to download for free. These guys are from Toronto, and I'd say their music is in between the genres of Being-Angry-Enough-to-Scream-At-Inanimate-Objects and Throwing-Copius-Amounts-of-Heavy-Things-At-Walls. They encouraged me to pass the demo around, so if you're into the hardcore/experimental-esque scene check 'er out:

1. Dirty 40's
2. There's No Mercy in War
3. Hardcore Like Bruce Willis
4. Witch Hunt
5. Bled Dry

International Superhits

Okay, so I know I'm a little late here considering Green Day released their new album, 21st Century Breakdown on Friday, but I thought I'd pay a little homage to their past by giving you their greatest hits. 1. Maria
2. Poprocks and Coke
3. Longview
4. Welcome to Paradise
5. Basket Case
6. When I Come Around
7. She
8. J.A.R. (Jason Andrew Relva)

Get Punked Pumped!

Hokay, summer is fast approaching and because of all the gorgeous weather we've been having I'm just super stoked pretty much everyday. The coffee I'm currently drinking could also be a culprit in my new found energy...but anywho, awhile back when I discovered iTunes was mucho better than Piece-of-Crap Realplayer, I started categorizing some songs into certain playlists. I made one called Get Pumped (no lie) and it's my go-to playlist for when I'm getting ready for a party or when I just want to, well, get pumped. So here are a bunch of my fave songs from that list for you to get stoked on yourselves. Chyeah, here we go:

*Note*: From here on out, I'm gunna put up songs with the name of the band first, just so all y'all don't get confused.

2. A Wilhelm Scream - Me vs. Morrissey In the Pretentiousness Contest

This Music is the Bomb

Alrightalright so here we get to one of my fave ska/punk-esque bands, Bomb the Music Industry. These guys like to say on their Myspace that they're from "part New York, part Georgia, part party". This is partly why they caught my eye a few months back, and also because of their quirky song titles such as "Ready...Set...No!!!" and "Does Your Face Hurt? No? 'Cause it's Killing Me!" Not only do these guys put a little hilarity into their song titles, they bring some kick-ass music to the table that gets me super pumped. So without further ado, I give you Bomb the Music Industry!
(In mp3 format).

Bomb the Music Industry - Ready...Set...No!!!

Bomb the Music Industry - Does Your Face Hurt? No? 'Cause It's Killing Me!
Bomb the Music Industry - I Don't Love You Anymore
Bomb the Music Industry - I'm Too Cooooool For Music
Bomb the Music Industry - Free Bird Free Bird

If you like these songs, they have all their full albums up for download on their Myspace.

Get pumped!

Dat New New

New layout! I go back to highschool in saying the phrase "w00t". I know it turned out super girly, but it's just a little more organized, and I ♥ it. This is just a quick post, but in honour of my new layout, I have a song called Dat New New for ya. I've got my speakers plugged in and am currently gettin' my dance on to it, so if you're looking for a good beat check it:

Dat New New (Viking Remix) - Kid Cudi

Ohoh, photo for my title is from Deviant Art, by Frenzyy.

Don't Skip That Commercial!

So I was diggin' through the internet to find a song from a Ritz commercial (which I tend to do a lot; commercials just have such good music!) and I winded up finding a different song from an older commercial from about a year ago. It was called "When I Go" and it's by Slow Club, a folk-pop duo from England. It's just so darn cute, so give 'er a listen!

When I Go - Slow Club

It got me to thinking; in the past I've found a lot of really good songs just by not changing channels on my TV when commercials come up. Here are some other good 'uns I've found over the years:

Sleepy Head - Passion Pit
(game console commercial? I think? hmm...)
Yours to Keep - Teddybears Stockholm
(Virgin Mobile commercial)
We Are Your Friends - Justice
(VM again, they tend to have really good songs)
Fashion Rules - Chicks On Speed
(Telus commercial, good tunes too)
Trouble is a Friend - Lenka
(don't remember where I found this but it was recent)
Around the Bend - The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
(again, don't remember)

-sigh- I'm sure there are alot more on my iTunes but I think I'm gunna take a brake on sifting through my thooousands of songs aha. Cheers on future channel surfing!

On the Downlowload

I thought it might be beneficial to explain how to download the songs I post, so the following are the steps to downloading songs:

1. Right click on the song's link, and choose "Save Link As".
2. Just to make things easier, save the file to your desktop.
3. Once the file has downloaded, you can organize further by placing in it a new folder. I made a folder for all my downloaded music files and named it "New Music".
4. You're dunzo!

I Love Science!

So there's this little band called We Are Scientists, and I happen to be in love with them. They're an indie band from Brooklyn, New York and I first heard one of their songs on the movie Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist (which I also ♥♥♥!). The song was called After Hours, and I have it here below if you feel the urge to check 'em out:

We Are Scientists - After Hours

What the heck, give these a listen too!

We Are Scientists - The Great Escape
(I sometimes dance around to this in my undies, shh don't tell!)
We Are Scientists - Can't Lose

I'll try to put up a myspace link for the bands I blog about as well just to make life a little easier on us all; We Are Scientists.

Happy listening!

Cover Me Up.

Alrightalrightalright, so I fiiinally started my music blog. Still don't know how to add music, but I'll get there -sigh-. So in the last couple months or so, I was sort of bombarded with covers of songs, mainly performed by more hardcore/alternative-esque type bands. And funny story, the majority of these covers are either of hip-hop or rap songs. Go figure, is the new Crunk n' B, Crunk n' ... Metal? If so, I could totally see it. Just yesterday a good friend of mine sent me a song by a band called Skindred whom I'd never heard of before, & they have this whole reggae-metal thing going for them. Sound like your cup of tea? Check out their cover of Electric Avenue here.

So moving along with this whole covers deal, here's my list of the top 5 pop/hip-hop/rap covers by bands of a complete opposite genre: *Update*: Fiiinally figured out the mp3 thing, so I've added the actual audio files for your musical enjoyment!

1. Still Fly - The Devil Wears Prada
2. Swing - Miss May I
3. Toxic - A Static Lullaby
4. Notorious Thugs - Scary Kids Scaring Kids
5. Put Yo Hood Up - Set Your Goals

Now granted these songs may not be amazing, but they can definitely get a laugh or two outta me. If you're interested, check out the album Punk Goes Crunk here.
