Oh My Bejeezus + 8tracks

I can't believe it's been over a year since I updated this puppy. I kind of left it in the dust for reasons unknown, but it was kind of nice coming back and looking over music that previously (and still!) brought me joy. I recently joined StumbleUpon (worst mistake or best idea?) and came across this site called 8tracks. If you haven't heard of it, it's super cool because you can join and create a mix of 8 tracks or listen to other people's mixes. Really awesome way to share and discover new (and old) music. Kind of addicted. Check out my mixes here!

I Don't Care...

...what you think, as long as it's about me! Hokay, Fall Out Boy was my favourite band in highschool, and you can laugh allll you waaaant. I even did a photography project involving lyrics from my fave song of theirs. Well, I kind of gave up on them because they were apparently "uncool", said the "cool" people in the world. Bullshit. Anyway, so we were jamming in my friends room 2 weekends ago, and a song from their latest album came on. "Omg, I love this song! Who is this?" ..."Fall Out Boy" "WHAT!?" ...this event has since rekindled my love for their lyrical teenage agnst, and I don't care what you think (har har). Anyway the point is, I found this lil' remix and I looove it. Definitely a club-bangerrr. Enjoy!

Fall Out Boy - I Don't Care (Tommie Sunshine Mightyfools Remix)

On that note, I may upload their ooold stuff, before the entire world new their name.

It's Disco, Baby!

I lovelovelove dance tunage. Play me some MSTRKRFT, or a Viking mixtape & I'll love you forever... or until the songs over ;) I just discovered these duuudes, appropriately named The Disco Villains. I can't find much info on them but I like their tracks, so here are a few of them.

1. Pray for Plagues Remix (Bring Me the Horizon)
2. With Love Remix (Hilary Duff)
3. Lollipop Remix (Lil' Wayne)

Almost There

I've made an agreement with myself to spend most of my time on things that actually matter to me, instead of FACEBOOK... and various other useless websites. Something that matters to me is keeping up this blog, and sharing music that makes me tap my toes or feel something amazing inside. I love music. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's my "life", but it is a really important part of my life, if not one of the most important parts.

While I was home for thanksgiving I collected a crapload of new music, but considering I'm pressed for time I'm gunna start with something small. So here's The Almost's latest EP, Monster. For those of you that don't know of The Almost, it's a side project fronted by Aaron Gillespie who also plays drums/does vocals for Underoath. Note that if you like Underoath, this is not the same ind of music. But I think you'll like it anyway.

1. Lonely Wheel
2. Hands
3. July
4. Birmingham
5. Monster

And this is the first song I heard by them:

Omg, some new music!

M.I.A. has been my status for quite some time now. But I found myself with nothing to do, listening to some good tunes & then I remembered "oh yeah, I have a freakin' music blog". So for you kids today, I have two new endeavors of musical amazement. The first was bright to my attention by a friend of mine, and I was a little in shock when he sent the tunes my way. I was expecting "raawrrr" kind of music from him, & this is quite the opposite...

2. Wear and Tear
3. I Don't Know What to Do
4. Search Your Heart

The Fourth Dimension...

...is of course, time. And I won't have a lot of it this year. But here's my new goal for this blog: to put up at least one new post per week, be it one song that catches my interest, or an entire album. And of course I'll still blog about shows and concerts I attend, and leave links to videos you can check out on YouTube. I'll try my darndest to fill your ears with new music! I'm listening to this little tune right now, and it's mellow as mellow gets. Perfect for my early bedtime tonight; love.

Joshua Radin - Star Mile

Sweet dreams, kiddos :)

Fix You Up

I am sooo lacking on the blog front lately. Too much to do for school! Over the past few weeks I haven't exactly had the time to scope out new tunage and rave about said new tunage. But this song has been stuck in my head for the past week. Nothing "underground" or "edgy" today, but is anyone else surprised by Pearl Jam's new sound? Thoughts please!

"Ayyy yeah yeah yeeeeah..."

Pearl Jam - The Fixer

Oh yeah, and I heard this on the edge last week, and surprisingly I like it? The only other Mastodon song I've taken the time to listen to is the one from the intro to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Movie (ha). It's different (for me), I like it.

Mastodon - Divinations

No Big Deal, Just Partying With the Band

Seeing Tokyo Police Club on Saturday, with my friend's cousin's band Ruby Coast. I don't have alot of time to talk, so let's cut to the chase! Gonna be a sweet show, I get to party with the bands, get super wasted, and amazingness will ensue. So check out Ruby Coast's EP, as seen down below. Do it now!

2. Laugh At Alice
3. Neighbourhood

The Wilderness of Manitoba

This band really caught my attention because of their simplistic approach, resulting in beautiful music. The very first song they played featured a track of a birdsong in the background, followed by acoustic guitar (Bluebirds). Great music for when you just want to chill out, or you need help falling asleep. The band was also super cool, and told everyone to "pay what you can" for their debut EP. Also cool, they put the amount of EPs on the back i.e. they made 75, and I got #66 of this limited edition beauty. Coolie. Anyway, here it is, Hymns of Love and Spirits.

*Note: all other songs were removed on request from the artist, but please check out the following two tracks & visit their Myspace to hear more!

1. Bluebirds
5. Evening

The Rural Alberta Advantage

*phew* longtime no see. But I went to a show at the Horseshoe on Queen this past Friday, & it was gooood. Three bands played, and The Rural Alberta Advantage were the headliners. I'm a newer fan of this band, but I lovelovelove them. Their CD is just great so DUH, I'm going to share it with you! The other two bands that played were Hooded Fang, and a new indie band by the name of The Wilderness of Manitoba (shall upload their CD too in a separate post). Hooded Fang was okay, but they sounded too much like every other indie band I've heard, & they didn't really do anything to grab my attention. Anyshoes, without further ado, I give you Hometowns by The RAA.

1. The Ballad of the RAA
2. Rush Apart
3. The Dethbridge in Lethbridge

Your English Is Good

So Tokyo Police Club are playing a show with Ruby Coast on August 15th in Newmarket, about 20 minutes away from me. These kids hail from Newmarket, and I'm sad to say that I only recently clued into this fact. Even still, that's flippin' awesome. What's even more awesome, is that because my friend's cousin plays in Ruby Coast, we get to attend the after party! Holla, living the rockstar life, right here. No I kid, I kid but it should be a rocking good time and you know I'll be snapping pics n taking vids, so stay tuned!

So I'm heading to the Sound Academy on Friday to see The Arkells again. They're playing a free show for Bookie's Big Blast along with my friend's cousin's band Ruby Coast, and Still Life Still. It's a free show, so if you're in the Toronto area on Friday with nothing to do, come out and listen to some chillin' tunage and have a couple drinks! (Or some water perhaps, if that floats your boat). Doors are at 8PM, and it's first come first serve. If you're interested, head over to the Sound Academy website now and get yourself on the guestlist.

Big Music Fest '09

Finally got around to putting together a vid from the show. It was pretty hard to get any decent shots through a crowd of 10,000 screaming fans, but I tried. I figured if you at least get to hear how it sounded, that's fine by me.

Awesome concert, let me tell you. We didn't get to see The Spades, because of course we had to drink a few beers before leaving, and then we had to get food, etc. etc. Long story short, we were a little late (and by little I mean 2 hours!). But everyone else was just wicked. Gord Downie was just having a ball on stage, and let me tell you, if he were my age... No totally kidding..sort of. But it was a really great show. I've never been anywhere in my life where there's been that many people. Awesomeawesomeawesome, that's all.

Julie Doiron

About a month ago after I saw City & Colour, I put a post up of vids from the concert & one of them was of Julie Doiron. I'm fiiinally getting around the putting up her latest album, I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day. All day I've been into listening to really chill music a la Band of Horses & Interpol, and this album definitely fits in with that description. Enjoy compadres!

Jam Session

So lately I've been coming up with a whole bunch of ideas for just stuff in general, and I thought it might be interesting to start a club next year at Humber. Music related, of course, although I don't really have an idea in mind as to what we would do. Probably just discuss music, have little jam sessions for those of you that are musicians, maybe "field trips" to shows in Toronto aha. Who knows, just a thought. If you guys have any comments about the idea, shoot me a message down yonder where it says comments. Thanks kids! Oh & I finally got my Harmonica today! Score.

Today's tunage is random, which isn't unusual for this blog lately. Skindred is the band, and they're under the genre of reggae-metal. If that combo doesn't intrigue you, I really don't know what will! Good cruising-to-the-beach music. Best part is, I can actually dance to this.

1. Rat Race
2. Trouble
3. Nobody
4. Set It Off
5. Electric Avenue (Cover)
